ברוך ה' we have returned home on time every day this week (at least in the Wholesome, Wonderful, Wahoo, Walloping, Warlike bus), extending our impressive streak into our Twenty-Second straight year. Thank you to all the boys who helped on the late night, whether it involved cleaning cooking, painting, or various other helpful things. A special mention of the boys who helped with the setup and cleanup, which isn’t as popular as the cooking. גבריאל שרגא the coach and the counselors helped tremendously. Your name can be here next week as well. As we do every year, there is an optional test on the גמ' learnt that week on the following Monday, with prizes being given out to students who receive a good grade. Everyone is encouraged to do חזרה over שבת. A grateful welcome to our 6th grade מגיד שיעור, Rabbi Rand. A special welcome and thanks to our counselors ישעיה Klein, נפתלי Shenker and יצחק אייזק Tendler. We are looking forward to an amazing summer experience of course. Each year is better than the last, so it’s certain to be the best summer yet. So happy to have coach with us once again this summer, he’s a tremendous help. Our search for a "song of the summer" has begun, we have a large selection of songs to choose from and 4 weeks to do so. Have no fear, we will בעזרת השם find our song by the time the summer ends. There’s been great enthusiasm towards the songs that we’ve played and we’ve already found some favorites, but there’s still plenty of time for another song to snag the award. Monday our first day of camp, we started out with learning by grade which was of course Geshmak as it should be. After learning the boys were divided into their respective vehicles for our trip of the day. There were those who were זוכה to make it to the WWWWW Bus and those who were doing it לשם שמים and going on the Multi-colored bus otherwise known as the ????? thing. We also had coach driving the Hatzolah vehicle with some of the boys. Monday, we headed out to Lost Worlds Laser Tag (I didn’t make up the name). Of course we commandeered the entire place for ourselves. We were split into two groups, while one group went into the lasertag room to be briefed the other group received their cards for the arcades. The lasertag had multiple floors and bases. Personally I’m scared of guns and don’t understand why people find them amusing. Whether it was shooting light at each other, or mutilating some grotesque creature on the screen. I just don’t get it, guns are scary. Thankfully there were other things to do like, car racing, bumper cars, bowling (בדוחק גדול) you can call it that, air hockey, some mario game and countless others. After about 30 minutes the groups were switched. This went on for a couple of hours and when the time was up, boys lined up to get some silly prize, while the smart ones boarded the bus with air conditioning. We left for home and arrived on time at around 4:34 at least on the WWWWW bus. Some things never change, we on the WWWWW bus magnanimously gave everyone else a head start to see if they could get there first. Alas, the more things change the more they stay the same. It was of course the WWWWW bus on time both ways and everyone else was late. Some outtakes: Lots of flashing lights in the laser tag room, reminded me of some car I know We saw amazon delivering a house , I wonder who thinks that’s a great idea The idea of air hockey is to get it into the other person’s goal, seems simple YYS was having trouble with that, getting it into his own goal, what a nice boy The laser tag guide was really in the mood of Chinese, he kept saying wok, wok wok, strange! Counselor יצחק אייזק got # 1 and אריה Jacobs second in the first game of L-Tag Next game, counselor ישעיה was # 1 and אריה J. was second once again חיים זאב got the high score in basketball of 39, and he’s not even 6’ tall ישראל מאיר הכהן was first in 2nd shift first game, נפתלי was second יעקב ישראל was first in the second game, אהרהם מאיר was second If you don’t sit in your seat as you should, you may turn into a projectile, והמבין יבין יעקב ישראל was first again Which leads to the age old question, what does the valley and guns have in common
Tuesday morning began with our first full day of learning חסדי ה'. At 12:15 the boys ate lunch and we then loaded up the busses heading to Rancho park in Pico for our first baseball game of the season. We first chose up teams with the captains choosing everyone (see our website for the team list) from 8th through 6th grade. When everyone was on a team, we headed to the fields where we had teams 1 and 2 playing and teams three and four playing. Teams three and four had, ישעיה pitching for them. Teams one and two had Rabbi Manne pitching for them. The games started off with teams two and four jumping out to the early lead. Team 4 acutally won in a shutout 3-0 over team three (great start to the season). Teams one and two kept it close for a bit with team one even drawing within two runs. In the end team 2 won by the score of 7-4. The games were very fun with many of the boys hitting, erroring, overthrowing and other interesting things, like letting the ball go under your glove. The games continued until 3:22 at which point we gathered the bases, ball and bats, put them into their case and reloaded the busses heading back towards camp. Of course, we made our first 8/12 stop of the summer, with boys getting slurpees. After spending some time there, getting everyone sugared up we reloaded the busses for our trip back to camp. The black bus took the Picco and some La Brea boys home, while everyone else came on the WWWWW Bus. Traffic back to camp was bit of a mess, but this is par for the course in LA One can only wish for days like those of the summer of 2020 for some reason there was no traffic on the roads then except for CRM, it was a true pleasure. Everyone went home to get some rest before another rigorous day that was coming up, our first hike of the summer. Some outtakes: The boys were given two basic rules to follow Make the pitcher look good (strike out on three pitches). Some of the boys complied becoming Rabbi Manne’s favorite batter Some of the favorite batters included: YRG, TR, MHBP, Last but not least YMHK, on three consecutive pitches, there’s someone who follows instructions בדיוק עקיבא M. got lucky, it should have been caught As least some of the boys could follow instructions and make the pitchers awesomeness shine through The second rule was, that if you hit to Rabbi Manne you will be out Some of the boys wanted to see for themselves, suffice it to say they were quickly retired You would think after one or two, times they would get the message, but no they didn’t Wednesday morning, we had another Geshmakeh day of learning tragically, it was a bit shortened. After learning, we loaded the vehicles to go to our hike of the day, rock pool creek in Calabasas. We actually went to century lake, not the rock pool, but that’s what the hike’s called. It took about 50 minutes for us to reach the hike, which wasn’t bad considering that it took 1:40 on the way back. When we arrived and parked the boys were briefed on where we were going and what to expect on the way. The boys who had yet to receive their hats, got them today. Rabbi Manne led the way and Rabbi Rubnitz stayed in the back as we began the hike. It was mostly a nature stroll until we reached the uphill and which point it was strenuous for a bit of time. When we reached the peak we made a sharp left to century lake. When we got to the bottom, the boys starting eyeing the water and it didn’t take long until they started jumping into the water. The logic was simple, by the time they are halfway back to the bus they would already be dried. Therefore about half the boys “jumped into the lake” in their clothes. There was about 45 minutes of swimming time and we then headed back. Rabbi Rubnitz led the pack and Rabbi Manne waited for the stragglers along with Counselor ישעיה. Slow and stead, that someone’s motto, not that of CRM. On the road one of the boys found a fish, which he dismembered. There was also some slithering thing, running for it’s life as one of our upstanding citizens were chasing it. When we reached back to the busses the counselors distributed soda and granola bars so the boys could refresh themsleved. Then we were back in traffic or real arriving at camp at about 6:0 PM
Some outtakes: The boys were told to watch out for snakes On a previous trip we had seen a rattlesnake there The boys followed along in an orderly fashion so that everyone would reach our destiny w-out getting lost on the way Some the of the group (in the back) took the long-cut, they didn’t get lost Rabbi Rubnitz, paid one of the 8th graders to be late, so he could get there first He’s still wasn’t on time, just early instead of the usual late Lunch is on that boy tomorrow When a boy saw a snake, he just stayed out of the way as he was told Or not! Maybe he chased it down not realizing that it may turn and bite him The soda and granola bars were a big hit Camelbaks only, no water bottles, why is that such a difficult concept
Thursday, we planned another full day of learning, however after realizing that it was Erev yumtiv, we decided that it would behoove us to leave early. After learning, we loaded us the busses with supplies and headed off to the city of vista, “The Wave” this being our first Late-Night. We figured it would take about 2 hours and fifteen minutes. There was a really confusing phenomenon developing, usually as you drive the eta goes down, in this case it was going up. So what was supposed to be a 2:15 minute trip, turned into a three hour and fifteen minute trip. We were supposed to have league games but by the time the slow vehicles got there, there just wasn’t enough time. The boys played pickup games, while we got our first world-famous CRM late-night BBQ started. We of course had the regular staples of a late-night, frankfooters, cowboiguhs, grilles salami and killed basa, grilled wings and baked beans. BH the boys were hungry and we actually ate through all our food, for the first time in a long time. After this we Davened מנחה in the park, following which the cleaned and packed up and then loaded the busses for our trip to The Wave about an eight minute drive. When we got there the boys changed into their bathing suits and readied themselves to the task of mastering the slides. There are 4 slides to choose from, one of which is a body slide. You can use a single or double tube. The עולם had an hour of going up the stairs and down the slides. When this hour was over, we spent the second hour on the Wave and the lazy river. The Wave requires some skill to be able to stay on without falling off. The vast majority of the boys, either went straight off the side, once up the middle and then down the side. Some יחידי סגולה were able to stay on for a bit. You can go down a short slide into the lazy river, where you float down the river being pushed by the man-made current. When this hour was completed, the עולם changed back into regular clothes for מעריב. The boys were then given granola bars, to get a little more energy for the trip home. We then loaded all the pico boys onto the black thing, coach kept his boys and everyone else came on the white bus. We gave the multi-colored black bus a head start both ways, it didn’t matter as usual. Everyone was dropped off by 11:15 and went home to sleep and get ready for another Geshmake day at camp. The Wave was graced, with the best kids Entering the park, on their heads are lids Running to be first, sliding as if on skids To the be the first one, they place their bids
The slides are four, which do you choose One way or the other, you just can’t lose Down the body tube, you catch a snooze Violently being tossed, in the double tube
Some boys were shivering, as they waited Going into the water, it temporarily abated If only natural padding, they had created A shaking leaf, they wouldn’t have simulated
The lazy river you know, if where you float Maybe in a tube, but can’t be on a boat Spraying someone, they they get to gloat Shouting and bleating, sounds like a goat
The wave you see, you’re supposed be on Not fall off the second, the board you don An looker can’t see, in 1 second you’re gone To the right or left, the conclusions forgone
Our first late night, the day was really great Even though or because, we got home late Week one flashed by, it seemed to skate What’s next week to bring, I just can’t wait
Some outtakes: As we realized that the traffic was a mess, it became obvious that everyone was on the way to Vista The sign said reduce speed ahead, this is while was flying down the road at 10MPH Someone needs their head examined Imaging our shock when we exited the 5 to the 78, there wasn’t speck of traffic I wonder why everyone decided to turn around and go home, what was the point in that We serve suppuh not dinnuh, I’m really unsure why some boys feel that this is debatable If you are one of the boys who insist that you eat ham at home, please ask מחילה from your parents Also please notify us who you are, so we can know not to trust your כשרות The maximum about of time, they let you on the wave is 20 sec. so you don’t hog it up After 20 sec. you get whistle telling you it’s time to dismount עקיבא M (of the valley) made it through the entire 20 seconds It just coincidental that most of the boys were in the lazy river, most of the 2nd hour It doesn’t mean that they were lazy, at least it’s not מוכח While driving home, we saw a speck in the distance as we closed in on it, we noticed it was the black bus Next thing you know it was once again a speck in our rearview mirror Interestingly enough we didn’t recognize the back of the bus, since we never see it We were עומד למנין on the bus about who should Daven קבלת שבת in the Koillel this week The choices where between the בחורים החשובים, ישעיה H and פסח נמנו וגמרו that it will be פסח this week. The Koillel thanks him in advance for his service Just when you think you’ve heard it all from teenagers, something new pops up One of the חכמים who won’t be names (YAU), decided that at 11:00ish we should stop at 8-12 The way home took 1:40, who can explain there great mysteries The logic seems obvious, you need the extra sugar to stay up learning all night On the other hand, I’m having real difficulty following the logic
Friday, we started out the day off correctly with learning. It was then on to Rancho-park for a punchball game. Sorry I won’t tell you who won beforehand, since it will ruin all the anticipation of finding out what actually happened. I will give you a hint though the games weren’t close.
A reminder to all parents: If you wish to speak to us while we are driving, please call us, we have earpieces and can answer the phone. We can't respond to or even read a text, WhatsApp or email message while we are driving, as this is extremely unsafe.

אריאל אליהו הכהן, יונתן, אליהו הלוי, אריה הכהן B., אריה הכהן K., מאיר הכהן, חיים זאב, יצחק רפאל. ישראל מאיר הכהן organized the U-Haul and was of major help. גבריאל שרגא helps on every occasion, including the packing up. All the counselors of course. Coach never stops cleaning up the site, thank you so much or all your assistance. If your son’s name isn’t mentioned here, it’s probably not that I forgot to put it in. We were joined by Mr. Benporat who accompanied us on our trip and was a great help, thank you very much. We were also joined by two previous campers, יהודה Rothstein and יונה אליהו Jacobs, both brothers of current campers, thank you to them. As we do every year, there is an optional test on the גמ' learnt that week on the following Monday, with prizes being given out to students who receive a good grade. Everyone is encouraged to do חזרה over שבת. Many of the boys did well on the test last week. There are number of songs and singers represented in our favorites at this point. We are now are hiatus for three weeks and resume our quest for a song of the summer in earnest, after the nine days. Motzei Shabbos Koidesh we had our first Mesiba. We had Melave Malka consisting of hand-tossed oven baked bread, smothered in smashed tomato’s and covered in curdled stolen baby-moo juice. There were also freedom fries and soda to go along with it. Afterwards we had a game of ידיעות כלליות, which was one by Team 1 and team 3 was in second place. Some outtakes: No one truly embarrassed themselves Some of the boys knew the answers to hard questions Other boys were really good at “passing” Team 1 had 620 points Team 2 had 330 points Team 3 had 550 points Team 4 had 45 points; I must admit that this last score is the epitome of pitiful
Monday the first day of the week, we had our first test on last weeks material and I’m happy so say that many of the boys did well. If you were one of them, may you continue to do so, if you missed the cut this week, there’s always next week. We Boruch Hashem got to learn most of our regular day. After learning we boarded the busses for our trip to the valley. We traversed the roads and arrived at the ice center in the valley. The first hour we did free skating. I’m using the term skating kind of loosely, some of the boys were really good, others were really bad and some were eh. Then there were the group of people who chose not to participate. I empathize with those people as I chose to do the same thing. If you can’t do something, you can’t do it. Of course, there was music in the background or actually the foreground, thanks to counselor יצחק אייזק who attached his 24/6 to an amazing playlist. When this hour was completed, the boys took off their skates and traded them in for brooms. There was an amazing game of broom ball, which ended in a מחלוקת, I do believe that this resulted in a tie, so everyone lost or won, depending how you choose to see it. We then left the valley boys there and loaded everyone else up on the buses and traveled back to the city arriving right on time at 4:09, giving the boys time to pack and get a good night’s sleep before heading out on our first overnight. Some outtakes: How does someone from phoenix know how to ice skate Some of the “skaters” needed help, so they used traffic cones, seemed kind of desperate Some of the boys were really good at sitting on the bench Some of the skaters were really professional A couple of boys brought their own skates, I didn’t know that this was a thing Some of the boys were cold and brought sweaters or the like Others claimed to be warm despite the frigid temperatures Others were just cold and dealt with it There are advantages to have natural padding and being in shape, round is a nice shape Just b/c the boys were using brooms, it doesn’t mean they can sweep They were just using it to hit someone with, I mean a ball with This was a had fought game and ended in a tie The U-haul was picked up, all the supplies were organized and put in box We were ready for Tuesday morning to head on out on our trip
Tuesday morning began with the boys dropping off the luggage behind Bais Yaakoiv, where the counselors were there loading everything up in an orderly fashion, so that we could leave in a timely manner. After they dropped off their stuff, the boys headed to Rabbi Einhorn’s Shul to learn. כי הם חיינו ואורך ימנו, we don’t ח"ו skip learning. After learning for an hour, we loaded up the buses and car and headed out to our campsite in Bass Lake. When we arrived we had two adjacent campsites, where we put the 6th and 7th grade on one side and the 8th on the other side. Exiting the city heading north and a little east, we traveled the 5 to 99N and then turned east on the 41. There were many hills and twisty roads, more on that upcoming. Along the way we stopped at Loves which is made for large groups of people. We arrived in about 5 hours at about 4:00 PM. Of course, along the way we were playing music from this year’s playlist, getting all of our favorites, perhaps some we didn’t favor at all. Obviously, the black bus was late, that’s just what they do. Upon our arrival, we gave out the tents to our groups, showed the boys were to camp, and for those who needed help there were plenty of knowledgeable people ready and able to help. The boys then went to the lake to go swimming with the counselors as we setup for the BBQ. The BBQ consisted of Cowboiguhs, frankfooters, grilled chicken bottoms, Grilled Salami and deaded basa. Kishka off the grill, the best way to eat it. There were also deep-fried freedom fries, which the boys made. This is aside from the buns and condiments. After suppuh, we Davened מנחה, and had a bit of free time. After this we had a Kumzits, which most of the boys participated in very nicely. Mr. Benporat helped turn the spark of the fire into a roaring flame. The boys were roasting marshmallows and putting it with chocolate (the not stolen kind) of grahams crackers, a different type of כורך. At about 10:00 we Davened מעריב, and the boys then went through the process of starting to get ready for bed. The 8th grade seemed to have particular difficulty with this. Eventually, everyone went to sleep to have כח for the next days trip. Some outtakes: Packing lightly doesn’t mean just leaving your couch at home As a rule of thumb, if you’re bag is bigger than you, you didn’t pack lightly Some 8th graders took the other side literally and moved to the other side of the road They needed to move it back, the thought of all that work The 5 for about 5 miles is backwards, you are driving on the left side of the road This is obviously that his Grewsomeness the governor of the peoples republic of California Is anti-Trump and wants to push everyone as left as possibe I always wondered why they have runaway truck ramps, who are they running from This year I figured it out, they are running from ICE Good luck, those ramps are a dead-end Selma is the raisin capital of the world, according to the city of Selma Why would that even matter, imagine that this is your claim to fame, sad We saw cows on the side of the road, we were happy to be out in front as always We didn’t have to see the spectacle of the baby moo-juice being stolen Oakhurst the main city before Yosemite has a population of 13,066 Bass Lake population of 527, what would attract anyone to live there Maybe it’s the coyotes screaming in middle of the night The black bus was only 10 minutes late, improvement had been made ירמיהו Union caught a from, which he didn’t eat יעקב Serbin caught a frog and a fish and almost a snake I don’t get the snake thing The Kumzits was very nice and all the boys were participating Hearing the coyotes at night is kind of like a noise machine, it just puts you to sleep Wednesday morning, we had a late start to the day, with Davening beginning at 7:00. After Davening, we sat down to learn, priorities. It’s gets really hot as soon as the sun rises over the tree tops and hard to sit in the sun. After this we sat down to our amazing Gourmet breakfast, CRM style including yeggs, with any number of vegetables in it, or plain, it that’s where you are. (Someone did תשובה, at least temporarily, we’ll see what happens.) There were also pancakes and beer cakes as well as toast and hash browns. After breakfast the boys made samiches for lunch to take along with them into Yosemite. At about 10:45 we left to head into Yosemite it’s really not very far, but when we got near the entrance it was backed up and it took us about 30 minutes to enter the park. We then waited for pickup truck and were doing הקפות while waiting for them. We headed down in the valley stopping on the way to take a picture with quarter dome in the background. There were some random waterfalls coming down the sides of the walls, which was entrancing. We continued onto the valley and drove straight to the end right next to the hike and dropped the boys off, CRM has special privileges. We hiked up towards the falls, vernal and Nevada. On the way up the mountain the mist trail was closed and some of the Kvetche’s decided to turn around and head home. Some of the other boys, made it to the top of vernal falls, the select few made it to the top of the second falls, that of Nevada falls. It was a glorious view from that vantage point looking out yonder and watching the fall do its thing, fall. The hike took a while and by the time the groups returned, mist trail was open and people got to use the cool stairs hewn from rock. Eventually everyone got back and we realized how close we were cutting it, to getting back too late to Daven. So we Davened מנחה near the end of the hike. We then loaded the buses and headed back to camp. This required us once again going up to 6000’ elevation and then going partially back down again. We got back to the camp five minutes before שקיעה and immediately started suppuh, the previously described BBQ. After this we Davened מעריב as some of the boys were in a hurry to get to sleep being warn out form the whole day of hiking. At about 10:30 everyone got into their tents and was quiet (with the exception of some 8th graders). Some outtakes: The boys were learning Shtarke, even though it was an overnight People were learning the proper way to turn over yeggs Some people were having trouble figuring out how to pour a little pepper on their yeggs Instead it sometimes seemed like they were having some yeggs with their pepper Beer cakes are the way to go, instead of water or stolen baby moo-juice, we use fermented water Someone was supplying the boys with drugs, peets Some of the 8th grade boys volunteered to move their tent since they didn’t want Rabbi Manne to be lonely, than you so much to them Fish camp population 200 Trying to get teenagers to cooperate is challenging at times Trying to get fish to cooperate in a camp, sounds literally impossible According to the sign “speeding kills bears” Generally I loathe to speed at all Now that I know that it kills bears I may try it They forgot to mention that bears kill people, making it sound like poor innocent bears might be killed They also didn’t post the required speed to kill bears, seems nasty to withhold that information Between 20 and 30 boys made it to the top of Navade falls, Two boys decided to share, ater all sharing is caring. What they were sharing, eh – their stomach contents
Thursday, we Davened at 6:30 a little late, but better then the day before. After Davening we learned as we always do. Ater learning was cleanup, the boys had to sweep out their tents, have it inspected by Rabbi Rubnitz or one of the counselors and then they were to bring the tents to the back of the bus and their luggage to the back of the U-Haul. This took a while as you may imagine and when this was done, we had our usual steller breakfast as mentioned previously. After breakfast the cleanup continued with coach and a few boys cleaning up the grounds and all the camp cooking things wrapped and being brought to the U-Haul for transport home. This took a while and by the time we were ready to go it was nearly 12:00 PM. We then drove lakeside to the other side of the lake to Miller’s landing where we were to go boating. There was the check in process for the drivers and we were off on the boats, the seventh grade did the first shift, with 9, 9 and 12 boys respectively occupying each boat. Coach, Mr. Benporat and Shaya, took the first shift. The second shift was 8th on the speedboats and 6th and 7th on the pontoon boat. The third shift was the final 8th graders and was driven by Yeshaya the counselor. Each group of boys had an amazing time as this is an amazing and very rare activity in the state of California. When the boys weren’t on the boat, they were mostly frolicking in the water. Coach left after the first group with the boys who had to attend a Bar Mitzvah. The rest of us, stayed until the end and left at about 5 PM. We headed out onto the road, stopping for gas and then gas and Davening at about 7:45 and then proceeded our spring home arriving at about 10:07 PM. We immediately Davened מעריב, and then offloaded the luggage and they took theirs (hopefully) home. Everyone went home to rest for a bit, before coming to camp for another day. What boat was your lot, trying to stay on Speed boat or pontoon, soon you’ll be gone Into the drink, the conclusion is forgone Tossed and soaked, not graceful as a swan
The terror you see, looking into they eyes As the boat takes off, & the banana flies The shock of the cold, the utter surprise When they’re thrown off, and try to arise
A glutton for punishment, I’ll do it again Driver’s happy to dump you, he says Amen Someone else comes on, tries to attain Staying on the boat, the thoughts insane
More times than not, the flag is waving Know that means, someone needs saving On the banana, everyone is behaving As they come off, they already raving
As your shift goes, coming to it’s end Your mind finds it, very hard to bend
Banana seatmate, you do befriend Hoping on the banana, time to spend
Coming off shaking, this thought you chew Maybe you’re a bird, seeing how you flew Each week’s something, innovative and new You blinked there it went, good old week two
Some outtakes: All of coach’s pontoon boys, stayed on the banaba Two of Rabbi Manne’s pontoon groups stayed on None of the speed boat groups stayed on the pontoon The coyotes at 3:00 AM made a terrible racket Right after כוותיקין, the geese fly away honking noisily Obviously they don’t want to disturb people who are Davening
Friday we started out the day off correctly with learning, seems like it wasn’t so popular today, it was parsley attended. It was then on to YGLA for a had fought basketball game with teams 1 betting team 4 by five points (they’re combined total). Team 2 creamed team 3, as if בלעם had done his thing.
Some outtakes: Boys seem perturbed by the name of 8-12 they mistakenly refer to it as 7-11 Today they say there was free slurpees because it is July 11 or 7-11 The free drinks they are referring to are available from 11-7 or 7/11 You can clearly see the סתירה if it’s b/c of the alleged name it should be available from 7-11 If it’s 11-7, it should be in November and the cup size should be 11.7 not 7.11 They obviously don’t have a clue what they are talking about It’s simple to see they are confused, it’s really 8-12
A reminder to all parents: If you wish to speak to us while we are driving, please call us, we have earpieces and can answer the phone. We can't respond to or even read a text, WhatsApp or email message while we are driving, as this is extremely unsafe.

As we do every year, there is an optional test on the גמ' learnt that week on the following Monday, with prizes being given out to students who receive a good grade. Everyone is encouraged to do חזרה over שבת. Many of the boys did well on the test last week and received their Pizza cards to Pizza Mayven, the best pizza in the world according to יחזקאל עקיבא. Our search for a "song of the summer" has begun, we have a large selection of songs to choose from and 4 weeks to do so. Have no fear, we will בעזרת השם find our song by the time the summer ends. We are now are hiatus for three weeks and resume our quest for a song of the summer in earnest, תשעה באב. Welcome to our incoming camper for the rest of the summer, שלמה יהושע הלוי aka Einikle. Monday the first day of the week, we had our test on last weeks material and I’m happy so say that there were boys who did well. Some of the boys for some unknown reason found it difficult to concentrate during the overnight. If you were one of those who did well, may you continue to do so, if you missed the cut this week, there’s always next week. Unfortunately, our learning was cut short today due to a multitude of reasons, but at least we got to learn. After learning we boarded the busses for our trip to Santa Clarita. The drive was really nice especially for LA traffic and it took us only 40 minutes to reach our place du jour, MB2. When we arrived, everyone got a card for games and a stamp/wristband. After this there was no shortage of games to play, all kinds of shooting things, car racing including stupid Mario racing, trying to run across the street which looked real and no one ever makes it. When the boys got tired of that, they moved on to laser tag. Then there was mini golfing, go-karting, bumper boats and batting cages. There was room for everyone’s thing which had lots of water so the boys didn’t dehydrate, since it was kind of warm there. This went on for a couple of hours until 3:30. At 3:30 everyone boarded their vehicle for the trip home, with both buses stopping in the valley for a drop off. We arrived back at camp at 4:35 and everyone went home to rest, to store energy for the big bike ride tomorrow. Some outtakes: True story, my cleaning lady didn’t come today, b/c she saw ICE hanging around her house I have NO IDEA, WHO MAY HAVE TIPPED THEM OFF about her, total shock Some of the interesting games: Laser bowling, you don’t need to actually hold a ball, seems a lot easier Skeet ball, does anyone even know what that is anymore Air hockey, Spin for tickets, cross the road (without dying), I’ve yet to seem someone do this successfully Car and motorcycle riding, what a bad way to teach kids about driving Gun shooting, really, this is scary Stupid Mario racing, at least they named it correctly Basketball against the clock, of course חיים זאב beat the machine high score again, with a 138 Laser tag was a bit smaller than the one we go to, but fun none-the-less Go karts, with real helmets, the face masks scare me, why are they hiding Bumper boating a real treat in this hot weather and you may come off soaked Batting cages 40, 50, 60 or 70 MPH Someone of the boys hit the ball, some pounded it, some gave everyone nearby a breeze, thanks קידוש ה' – some random lady asked if I was with the camp When I said yes, she said “your boys are very well behaved” Pat yourselves on the back, well done Someone was berating some old man that he can’t play golf When he holed it in one, they seemed shocked Why would they be shocked, haven’t they learnt yet, teenagers
Boruch Hashem today we were able to get a full day of learning in. After this we met in the alley behind the Shul for directions. Everyone was told the route and what to do if they fall behind someone. Coach led the way with Rabbi Rubnitz bringing up the rear. Naftoli and Rabbi Manne were there for the boys whose bike broke down, or who lost the will half way through to continue. When we reached the bridge near the park, Rabbi Manne gave further instructions and send the boys off on their way towards the ocean. When the boys arrived they had to wait for Rabbi Manne to get there, since there are lights and traffic on the road as opposed to the bike path. Upon his arrival water for those who needed or wanted and Granola bars were distributed. Some of the boys went down to the river to chill with the crabs. Even Dovid R. who catches all kinds of things wasn’t able to catch any crabs. The LA river is basically a dry bed used as a runoff for water heading out to the ocean. In middle of the summer, there’s usually a small smattering of water. This year it didn’t rain much, so the bed was almost totally dry. As we go towards the beach, the ocean water was flowing into the canal and there was plenty of sea water. After resting for about 10-50 minutes depending on when you got there, we turned around and headed back the way we came. When we reached the big bridge Rabbi Manne began sending groups on their way with one of the counselors. Everyone rode home on their bike and the last stragglers were still back in camp by 4:15. A great time was had by all and the boys went home to rest, to get ready for tomorrow’s activity. Some outtakes: Only one boy had his bike break down on the way, he got a flat tire A few more boys, just up and quit at the halfway point They obviously wanted to spend quality time with Rabbi Manne I completely understand this and thank them for entertaining me At the bridge on the way back, they resumed riding Did anyone pickup a tent on the way, I understand there were some nice ones on the path Some of the boys went down to the river, same as פרעה Hanging out near a bees nest, just b/c it’s there, not anyone’s brightest idea Some of the boys actually rode up that last ramp, that’s hard to do, כל הכבוד to them Many of the boys were really fast and hung with coach, getting to each point quickly Some of the boys, just didn’t come at all, since they felt they couldn’t make it Better than coming and then getting stuck in middle Personally, I think it wasn’t so hard, though traffic was a bit of a mess Wednesday, we Boruch Hashem and almost another full day of learning. Living is a wonderful thing, as we saw in the גמרא it protects you from the evil trying to get you. After learning at 12:30 we loaded the buses for the trip to Balboa Park, for our annual Bubble Soccer game. The trip was mostly uneventful and traffic was really light today, which was truly surprising. Upon our arrival we found that the balls had been inflated and we were ready to go. First it was 20 people in a free for all, the rules are simple if you fall you are out. Some of the boys were better than others at balancing, but it took a real specialist to not fall down when being sneak attacked. There were six shifts of this, rotating and starting over about every ten minutes. Some of the boys tried ganging up on others, but only one person can win. After the first hour concluded, we gave out drinks, in order the save a lot time and effort. Instead of sending the boys to 8-12 we distributed the caffeine laden drinks to the boys. Surprisingly we had some leftover ware from yesterday and we completely ran thorugh it, since the some of the boys didn’t bring a camelbaka and the weather was on the warm side. After the break we had league games in bubble soccer. Soccer games are notoriously low scoring, this is without being in a bubble. Put anyone in that bubble and the scrawniest of the boys, looked like they were in shape. The Games did progress however with Team 1 vs team 2 followed by team 3 vs team 4. There was bit of an issues, the defense was so amazing on all four teams, that not a single team was able to muster even one measly goal. This therefore went down as a tie, which means no one gained or lost any grounds in leagues from were they were yesterday. Some outtakes: Another day, and another day of the black bus, being shady and late We tried to be nice, we gave them a sizable head start We passed the black dot as we crossed over the 405 There was obvious care and concern for the plight of the black bus which kept losing We let them get ahead of us again for about 45 seconds We then realized there’s nothing we can do, we are incapable of going backwards They were more than five minutes behind us, though we passed them with only five minutes let on the trip, like I said backwards, we appreciate their gamesmanship, participating daily knowing they’ll lose Yisroel Margolies won the first round Yisroel Margolies won the second round Two of the counselors joined for the third round they came in 1st and 2nd respectively יצחק אייזק was second and ישעיה was first Dovid R. was the fourth round Yisroel Handwerger, won the 5th round Daniel Landa won the final round of bumper derby אריה לייב H likes being a ball and being kicked around, why who knows He’s a teenager, they can’t necessarily be understood Perhaps another way to look at the soccer fiasco is That no team had enough talent to muster a single goal In 1 hour, with four teams not a single goal, so embarrassing, I’ll stick with the great defense theory
Thursday, we B”H had another complete day of learning. At 12:45, after the boys had eaten lunch, we boarded the buses for our trip to Oxnard. There was traffic but we persevered and beat the Waze estimate by 10 minutes. When we arrived, we did what we always do, wait for the black bus to arrive. When the finally showed we went to the volleyball courts situated in the sand. There was a best of 3 series between teams 1 &3, and teams 2 & 4. The score was decisive teams 2 and 3 both won the series two games to none. Then we were on to the next activity of the day, football. This pitted teams 1 vs 2 and teams 3 vs 4. Teams one and two had Rabbi Manne at QB, while teams 2 and 4 had coach. The games were competitive, at least at the beginning. In the 3 vs 4, team, team 4 pulled away and did שחיטה on team 3, while in the 1 vs 2 game, the game ended in a tie. There was about a 30 minute break while the boys drifted around the park entertaining themselves. Then there was our world-famous CRM BBQ with cowboiguhs, frankfooters, grilled Kishkeh and Salami, also grilled chicken bottoms. Mustard and other condiments to go along with it. When this was done, there were a couple of groups of boys who wanted to go to the Volleyball courts to play, which they did. Then there was the main attraction, the kiddie park, they had swides and swings and all kinds of exciting stuff. The boys were running around there for at least ½ an hour. When this was done it was מנחה time. We scheduled this so that right afterwards we would have time to go to the beach and watch the sun disappear. שקיעה was at 8:07 in Oxnard and at 8:07:20 the last speck of the sun dropped under the horizon for the night. It was truly a sight to see. We then marched back to the eating place, where we began a game of capture the flag. It’s hard to say exactly what happened but teams on and two, beat teams three and four. At about 9:10 we began מעריב followed by everyone finding their bus for the return trip home. We arrived at cambridge at 10:28 at Bais Yaakoiv at 10:37 and at Adas by 10:53. Everyone went home to recover for another fun day upcoming before שבת קודש. First was volleyball, in that special place Oxnard you know, why it’s full of grace There’s much to do, in this nice place We’ll go through it, now try to keep pace
Volleyball is first, in the sand you encase The server is trying, to serve up an ace The hitter trying, not to fall on his face Attempted swat & miss, ball’s in aerospace
Next to football, with two QB’s you know Coach with one game, upon you to bestow The ball’s in your hands, catch it; hello! You just drop it, we know that’s apropos
Rabbi Manne’s the other, QB ready to go Throwing it to you, on a large rainbow If you catch the ball, now you’re aglow You didn’t it’s his fault, an errant throw
The BBQ of course, it’s second to none Cowboiguhs with mustard, on a bun Franks with mustard, you come undone Salami and Kishke, when they’re done
The slides & the swings, I’m embarrassed to say Sometimes it seems, it’s the highlight of the day Running around the ground, tag they do play Tire themselves out, until the times come to Pray
Now it’s down to the water, to watch the sun set Fall down under the ocean, going fast as a jet Though we’re at the beach, we don’t get wet Back to the eating area, no we’re not done yet
Capture the flag, cheatings rampant it’s claimed Team 1 and 2 wins, on cheating it’ being blamed Board the bus to go home, no need to be ashamed Week threes come to its end, it’s now proclaimed
Some outtakes: Chaim Feldman and the BenSoussans cleaned up the bus It hasn’t looked this good since we bought it, a Big יישר כחך to them With no music, some of the boys in the front of the white bus, spent time on ידיעות כלליות יאיר חיים had a beautiful kick of ball, just two issue It was the wrong direction We were playing volleyball, not soccer אליעזר Reichman was an OK server, not such a good hitter He said he would, but didn’t ace for the final point of the game If the QB throws you the ball and you can’t catch it don’t expect him to throw it to you again You’re going to ruin his value by keeping on dropping the ball The football fields were self-made as we always do If the ball hits you in the hands you’re expected to catch it, I know that shocking but it’s true 16 lbs of cowboiguh meat, all of it consumed, BH the boys were hungry I was terrified that our babies were going to obliterate the younger babies running around the kiddied section, see the photos, I’m not making this up Watching the sun drop under the sea, is something you don’t usually see Of course, the camp dog was playing with everyone on the sand At least those who weren’t terrified of it The boys playing in that large sandbox by the water Then getting them to leave took a lot of perseverance as it usually does getting children to leave the sandbox The capture the flag game was rife with cheating חיים זאב says that his team won, he has נאמנות so they won Just to clarify, פסח זכריה Davening מעריב on a Thursday night, doesn’t equate to קבלת שבת In fact, thirty regular מעריב'ז don’t compute to one קבלת שבת
Friday we started out the day off correctly with learning, seems like the boys were really tired to day, who understands teenagers. It was then on to Rancho for baseball with teams 1 & 4 playing to a tie and team 2 eking out a one point win 5-4 win over team 3, barely. Then it was off to 8-12 how can you start שבת with out a slurpee.
Some outtakes: Coming later to learning with the excuse that you started Davening at 9:30 How can you Daven שחרית at מנחה time, עבירה גוררת עבירה Pitching was down by Coach and counselor ישעיה Who was then replaced by, counselor נפתלי, who was then pulled for Rabbi Manne When a pro was needed someone had to step in, ישעיה then took over and finished the game

גבריאל שרגא, ישראל מאיר הכהן, ירוחם משה הכהן, אריאל אליהו הכהן, אריה הכהן B., חיים זאב, יעקב דוד, מאיר G., אליעזר H.. These boys helped pack up, and some up them also helped daily with the setup and cleanup. They should all be Gebentched! Thank you to יהודה Rothstein, who once again joined us on the overnight, he was a tremendous help. Our search for a "song of the summer" is now on hiatus for three weeks and resume our quest for a song of the summer in earnest, תשעה באב. Welcome to in influx of new campers, who are replacing those who already left and those leaving this week. We wish those going much הצלחה, knowing that it won’t be as good as the first half of the summer wa. Sunday, while the boys were fishing, or twiddling their thumbs, perhaps even learning, camp was preparing for our overnight, buying and packing all of the supplies that we would need for the overnight this week. Monday the first day of the week, we had our test on last weeks material and I’m happy so say that there were boys who did well. Luggage drop-off began at 8:00 AM and we began learning at 9:00 AM. After learning we loaded the buses for our trip out to Mt. Maddona, beteeen Gilroy and Watsonville. The ride took about 6 hours including stops and was largely uneventful. Upon our arrival the boys were given tents and sent out to find a suitable area to camp in. They congregated by grade in their appropriate areas and setup their tents. When this was done, the מפונקים headed straight for the showers, I guess that’s what they do. ראש חדש not being until שבת קודש, I’m not sure what the major hurry was, but then again, I’m not a מפונק. We then setup the grill for our BBQ, this of course included cowboiguhs (spelled phonetically, for those of you who are speech challnaged), frankfooters, grilled salami and Kishkeh, grilled chicken bottoms, deep fried winds, yunion rings (in a home made batter by Rabbi Rubnitz and freedom fries. Of course there was mustard (עיין בגמ' חולין דף קלב: וברמב"ם שם) and other condiment as well. We then Davened מנחה, by which time it was chilly and most of the עולם was already wearing a jacket of some sort. The campsite was always coolish and many people wore a jacket the whole time. We then had our first campfire of the overnight, with a Kumzitz led by the counselors and some of the 8th graders. In case the boys were still hungry, they were supplied with marshmallows, chocolate (the good kind – pareve) and graham crackers. They then made a כורך samich and leaned to the let while eating it. Ater this we Davened מעריב and the boys headed to their tents. At the appointed time I’m happy to say that most of the boys were quiet and considerate of others and went to sleep without making noise and waking or keeping others up.
Tuesday morning, we arose at 7:00 AM for שחרית as we had a big day ahead of us and lots of traveling to do yet. Immediately after Davening, we sat to learn, we can’t do anything else before living/breathing. We then had our world-famous CRM gourmet breakfast. This consisted of Yeggs good or ruined (with גניבאשע things), along with your choice of vegetables. Some of the boys are bland and just eat it plain, Bezras Hashem one day soon, they’ll see the error of their ways. There was also hash browns, toast and pancakes. Nothing though compares to beer cakes, replacing stolen moo-juice, with flavored water. Of course, there was hot cocoa someone was dealing drugs (caffeine) to the boys as if they needed that. After breakfast the boys made lunch and when we cleaned up and were ready, we headed out to six flags, we hade intended to stop first at Jelly Belly, however due to time constraints we decided to forgo Jelly Belly, perhaps another year, we will make it there yet again. We headed towards Vallejo, being from southern California we totally were used to the nasty traffic. I figured by now in NOCal, there would have already been a 20+ carpool lane or our benefit, alas they’re not that advanced. When we arrived, everyone had their green shirt and they were divided into groups to go on the rides. Were we to find any single floating stragglers, they would have the amazing opportunity of joining our group, of Rabbi Rubnitz and Rabbi Manne. I must say I’m kin of shocked they no one jumped and requested that privilege up front. We spent about six hours in the park at the end of which we met back in the parking lot. We had cold-cuts samiches for the boys which they demolished and we then Davened מנחה there. Afterwards we loaded the buses and headed back to our campsite, where we Davened מעריב and the boys were tired and went to sleep and by 11:30 all was quiet.
In six flags, you’re faced with an choice To which you must, now assign a voice To find the thing, that make you rejoice It’s all of the above, of multiple-choice
There’s so much to do, how to decide Do you like a ride, where you just glide Is being shaken the thing, that gives u pride Are you the one, who stands on the side
When you see food, do you stop and buy Weather it’s ice cream, or a chicken thigh The soda being guzzled, it makes you high Refills are free, soon you’re ready to fly
Perhaps u need a ride, that’s high in the sky Do you want to get wet, or remain bone dry Maybe to spin fast, thinking you’re a tough-guy Nauseous as a camel, you let out with a sigh
Maybe you do a service, try out the bench To find a location, where there’s no stench Next to drinks, where U’r thirst you quench Of course in a place, that’s free of any stench
The boat coming down, its point is to soak Doubly this is so, if on the bridge you poke It’s really good, to avoid getting heatstroke Go multiple times, look like a soggy eggyolk
The rapids boat, now that’s a lot of fun You soak them from the side, with a gun The water hits them, as they’re being spun Thinking they’re done, hit ‘em with another 1
Eating is extremely important, wherever you are In CRM there’s always food, whether near or far Wherever we travel, to destination near or far Whether traveling by bus, or even with a car
Cold cuts you know, why they bring out the best Biting into a samich, with much gusto and zest There’s mustard in there, your samich is dressed Demolishing your first, onto to your next conquest
Mincha in the bu lot, the right way to end the day When you’re full & had fun, now it’s time to pray Giving thanks to Hashem, as the words you say Asking for more help, as we ready for the parkway
Wednesday, we once again Davened at 7:00 and then had our Gourmet breakfast as listed above. We then headed out to the city of SF. Our first stop was at pier 39, where they have tour bus parking just for people like us, otherwise we just wouldn’t be able to find parking. We spent a couple of hours visiting everyone’s favorite shops, solve it (where you need to think) crazy Kaps (self-explanatory), knives (where they wont sell to minors BH), the backwards/בעל מום store (aka the lefty store) and may other stores. We visited the sea lions who weren’t performing and were being boring. There was a show on the pier, he was the same as the sea lions, so we did the same thing, we moved on. Of course, there was the site of Alcatraz easily accessible by a short swim through frigid waters which are shark infested. We then moved on to visit the golden gate bridge, where we parked and walked across half of it and it being a clear day, we had a really wonderful view. Up there right over the bay it was windy and it always is. When we were done, we reloaded the buses for our trip back to the campsite. Upon our arrival we Davened מנחה as שקיעה was quickly approaching (it doesn’t wait for anyone). Wite then had our BBQ as mentioned above, much of this was done by artificial light as the sun had already gone down. We then sat down for a Kumzits minus the fire, once again led by our conselors and some of the 8th graders. We then Davened מעריב and the boys headed for their tents. As with Monday night I’m happy to say that the vast majority of the boys were very cooperative and went to sleep quietly.
Thursday, we arose for Davening at a somewhat better hour as we needed to be out of the campsite by 11:00 and had to pack the luggage on top of everything else. After Davening and Living, the boys cleaned out their tents, brought the luggage to the appropriate area and then were permitted to join us for breakfast. We of course served our usual Gourmet Breakfast as mentioned above. We then began loading the bus with the tents and the u-haul truck with everything else. This took an hour of work by the counselors and many of the boys listed above a Big יישר חכך to them. While this was going on, some of the boys were inspecting the site for garbage to make sure that we leaving it clean for the next group of people. We then loaded the buses and headed out to TopGolf. I’ve never been there before; after observing the game, I came to the conclusion that the point of this is to see how embarrassingly bad you truly are at golf. If it will save you all that time and money from trying it out on a full-size golf course, it was well worth the effort. After spending two hours hitting the balls out into the green (carpet) yonder, we loaded the buses to head back home. We had gone one hour north, so we now had a six-hour trip going south. The first thing was granola bars, the boys were famished, not having eaten in a couple of hours, so everyone had some granola bars. The road home was OK, though there was some traffic, the window on the right side of the white bus randomly opened where some sixth graders were sitting and the window shattered. This caused Shaya and Rabbi Manne to have to force the frame back in, so we could lock it into place. There was also an accident on the highway so we were rerouted and at night they’re always doing construction on one or more highways. We stopped on the way to refuel by Davening מנחה the boys bought food and we added gas to the buses. We made one last stop to Daven מעריב in a Rest Area and then it was clear sailing all the way home. We arrived on time at 10:57 PM on the WWWWW bus, as we had been on time all week (see the photo on the front page of our website). Everyone went home to rest up and to be ready to learn Geshmak on Friday.

Helping to setup for breakfast We had a no fire or food Kumzits on Wednesday night which really worked out well Hitting the vehicle on the green collecting the balls, that give you an automatic win of that game We did have a hitters who achived that status, I wish I could say it was intentional “Gutsy winds ahead” – what is gusty about them, did they blow in the wrong place
Friday morning, we came to learn. We then headed to the park at YGLA for a basketball game. Team 1 Shechted team 3, one more time before you put the knife away for the nine days. Teams 2 and 4 went back and forth, with team 2 eking out a win over team 4 who fought valiantly to win, alas falling just short. Of course we went to 8-12, how can you start Shabbos without having had a slurpee.

Thank you to Dr. & Mrs. Richeimer who graciously allowed us access to their home in Running Springs for us to use for activities. It was a wonderful place to go, with lots to do and extremely gracious hosts. Our search for a "song of the summer" is now on hiatus for three weeks and resume our quest for a song of the summer in earnest, תשעה באב. Welcome to in influx of new campers, who are replacing those who already left and those leaving this week. We wish those going much הצלחה, knowing that it won’t be as good as the first half of the summer was. Monday the first day of the week, we had our test on last weeks material and I’m happy so say that there were boys who did well. Our day was a bit shortened due to the long trip we were taking today. At 11:00 we headed out towards Running Springs, nestled in the mountains to the east of Los Angeles. Traffic going our way was really light and we made good time about 1:45, considering we are driving buses up those hills. On the WWWWW bus, a few of the boys were participating in ידיעות of different things, though they kept changing the topic on the driver without any preparation, not so nice, seems like they were trying to trap me. Upon our arrival the adults scouted out the terrain and came up with a plan regarding how we were going to do this. There were many activities on the top of the house, zip-line, treasure hunt, ax throwing, dart throwing, horseshoes, treehouse, tetherball, miniature golf and hammocks. The boys took advantage of the use of those items as well. The main attraction was the obstacle course on the outside lower level. There were different challenges to complete all of it while being timed, making a mistake would cost you 10 seconds. We had them go in groups of 4 at the end of which a winner was chosen from each group. When this was done, we then had the winners compete, with the top two winners for each class facing off for the title. Of course, when Counselor Yeshaya did the course, he bested everyone else by 7 seconds. About halfway through our time, Rabbi Rubnitz provided the boys with ziti oozing with melted, curdled, stolen baby moo-juice. The boys seemed to want globs of it as they lined up for doubles as the פסוק says מים גנובים ימתקו. At a bit after 4:00, after cleaning up we packed up and headed by to the city. Once again the traffic was really light on our side and we arrived in under two hours. Of course, the BBBBB Bus was twenty minutes late, that’s just what they do. Some outtakes: The Sign said “watch downhill speed” there seem to be three different possible understanding of this Watch downhill speed Watch, downhill speed or last but not least Watch downhill, speed – This seems to be the correct reading 6th grade had one finalist uncontested; the winner was יצחק רפאל Guy 7th grade was a contest between חיים of Pheonix and עקיבא K. חיים won with a time 1:18 8th grade was between יהודה T. and אהרן נתנאל, אהרן נתנאל won with a score 1:04 This obstacle course wasn’t easy and required persistence, congratulations to them
Tuesday morning, we BH had a full day of learning and the boys learned Shtark. After learning we loaded the buses and headed out to Rancho Park. We had a large calendar of activities for today, but due to the amount of time spent on dodgeball we only got to do two of them. The counselors were reffing the games and after every other play there was an argument and an accusation of cheating since the counselor was going for or against his friend or relative. As the people became fewer, we started shrinking the field and making the person who first touched the ball throw it back, so that the game would move along. Still and all the best of three series took well over and hour to complete leaving us with little time to do more games. We decided to be ties, which gives everyone an equal chance to compete. It’s not necessarily the least vertically challenged boy who wins (see the picture of the final five). This also took a while to whittle out the pretenders from the contenders, as the ties got farther apart, those with skills stood out more, while the rest fell off to the left side. Soon there were only five left and after moving the ties once more, on the final jump only one person made it, not even Counselor Yeshaya made this jump. When this was over and the photo was taken, we headed out to 9/12 since we must have slurpees to survive the day. We then drove home so everyone could rest and be refreshed for the rest of field day tomorrow, when the more interesting field day activities occur. Field day you know, it’s one of a kind You just never know, what you will find Someone will arise, that will you remind Field day surprises, they’ll blow your mind
Team four will rise up, and win one game Someone cries foul, it’s just a crying shame You lost fair & square, arguing is so lame It’s your team not the ref, whose to blame
Ties are for everyone, your chance for fame If you jump really far, spectators do exclaim Moving the line, and by jumping you acclaim After the big win, nothings gonna be the same
Football in the field, you’re determined to win It’s as if losing, would be considered a huge sin When the ball hits your hands, not your shin If you catch it your hands, we’ll see a big grin
Chap-the-Zach it’s the one, we truly do love When surrounding the pin, I’ve seen a shove You’re about to be tagged, you throw it above The other boy could catch, in a baseball glove
The Yegg toss you see, it’s just a game of catch Thrown back & forth, if you have a good match About to smash apart, you make a great snatch You keep it up, your competitors you dispatch
The watermelon challenge, it is just a race How fast can you swallow, & stuff your face Try as you might, it can’t be done with grace You empty the rind, of the red there’s no trace
All the challenges skills, competition and games Some of them which, you don’t know the names It doesn’t matter, and it doesn’t effect your aims You watch the other team, dissolve into flames
Some outtakes Dodgeball was won by (team 4) Esvahan was bombed And by (Team 2) Krakow Ties was won by the captain of Esvahan was bombed (aka team 4) Some other people were there when we came, but they soon vacated the CRM park Why were the counselors cheating for some of the teams, were they paid off MY WIFE UNEQUIVOCALLY AND COMPLETELY REJECTS THE NOTION THAT SHE WRITE THE POEM FOR THE NEWSLETTER, SHE HAS STATED THAT THIS IS FAKE NEWS. I’M JUST CONVEYING THE MESSAGE!
Wednesday, we once again had a full day of learning. After learning we loaded up the buses and headed out to Rancho Park, for those of you who may not know, that’s in the Pico area. When we arrived, we setup the football field for our first game of the day. The black thing never made it, since it blew out a couple of tires. There are rumors circulating regarding the reason for this, some were speculating that the weight of the boys was too much for the tires. Others thought that the tires gave out due to embarrassment of not being able to ever get anywhere first. Still others felt that it was from always being in the exhaust of the WWWWW bus, before it completely got lost, that caused the tires to go pop. Whatever the reason, the black speck was a no show, but the show went on as it must. There were very competitive games, some of the boys need to learn that when the ball hits you in the hand (perhaps by the amazing QB), you need to catch the ball. It’s a travesty to drop a pass like that. In the end, it was team Krakow beating team Esvaha was bombed by 3 touchdowns, while teams shlumpy and kartofel played to a tie. We then shortened the field a bit and went straight into the amazing game of Chap-the-Zach, where you need to Chap the Zach from the middle and safely make it back to your side. This was a very competitive game. When this was over, we morphed into the yegg toss, everyone lined up with a friend, so that they would throw it to you not at you. Once everyone understood how to play the game began, no one got out during the first few rounds. They then started dropping like flies, some of the yeggs dropped harmlessly on the ground and cracked, while others cracked in people’s hands, making their hands yellow, in one case a chick flew out and pecked someone on the nose (or not). It was then onto the watermelon race, where four boys split a watermelon and see who can finish it first. Obviously, they made a ברכה first, before the race began. There were two races and then everyone received a slice of watermelon because why not. We then headed home, making a stop at Adas to drop the Pico boys and then back to Shul to drop everyone else off. The boys went home to rest after another grueling day in the field. Some outtakes Thank you to Eliezer for emptying the garbage on the bus He is the ONLY ONE who volunteered to do that There was another camp there once again, but they left when we came We share the park with others when we’re not there (מדת סדום), but when we come, they must leave Team Krakow beat team Esvehan was bombed at footall Team Kartofel and Team Shlumpy tied Chap-The-Zach, Team Kartofel beat team Esvehan was bombed Team Shlumpy and team Krakow tied יקותיאל יהודה and דוד B. for team Shlumpy, won the yegg toss Some people were complaining that they had a hard boiled yegg The question you must ask yourself is, how much did you offer me for that yegg יחזקאל עקיבא, won the first watermelon race for team Krakow This is the second year running, that he’s won the watermelon race An obvious champion, it’s all about consistency, always getting the same result נתנאל ברוך, won the second round of the watermelon race for team Shlumpy
Thursday, morning we BH had an almost complete day of learning. We then headed out to the valley to Korbun bowl for a bowling marathon. The WWWWW bus was there and waiting as usual as always for the rest of the camp. When we arrived the boys were given shoes which they donned and chose their lane to bowl in. We had from lane 12 and on reserved for us. It was timed and most of the boys got to bowl 4 games, the counselors completed their fifth game as well. Some of the boys were using bumper (I’m not making this us) and some were using the ball ramps to help them. We had the lanes from 1:30 – 3:30 at which time the lanes cut off and everyone got their stuff and headed for the exits. The Tarzanapan and valley boys were picked up, while everyone else boarded the buses for the way home. Traffic was light-ish and we arrived back at the Shul by 4:19, at least on the WWWWW bus.
Some outtakes: The idea of bowling is to knock down all the pins You might be thinking פשיטא, but then you missed this Someone (YA) bowled a 6 for the entire game, that’s kind of pitiful to be honest Obviously, some of the boys thought that you are supposed to keep the pins in pristine condition Not knock them down and mess up the order Game #1 high score 139 by יוסף חיים Voshogi Others over 100: יהודה אלעזר הלוי 137, עקיבא M. 121, יקותיאל יהודה 113, יעקב H. 132 שלמה דוד הלוי 107, מרדכי אליהו הכהן 113, יהודה T. 100 Game #2 high score יהודה אלעזר הלוי 143 Others over 100: אורי שרגא 101, עקיבא M. 111, דוד יחיאל 100, חיים זאב 112, נפתלי U. 112 אליהו אהרן הלוי 114, שלמה יהושע הלוי 116, נתנאל ברוך 104, יוסף חיים V. 112 Game #3 high score 146 by יהודה אלעזר הלוי Others over 100: אלישע S. 114, שלמה דוד הלוי 119, מרדכי אליהו הכהן 126, חיים זאב 107 עקיבא M. 105, גבריאל נחום הלוי 106, יוסף חיים V. 132 Game #4 high score 138 by אלעזר יהודה הלוי Others over 100: אלישע S. 128, מרדכי אליהו הכהן 116, עקיבא M. 112, אהרן נתאיל 104, אורי שרגא 121
Friday morning, we came to learn. We then headed to the park at Rancho for a punchball game. Upon our arrival, we split into two games, with Shlumpy playing Esvehan was bombed and Krakow playing Kartofel. Esvehan was bombed did the destruction today, mutilating Shlumpy by a score of 9-2. Kartofel was burying Krakow 2-0 but they battled back, and the last batter knocked in the winning run as time was about to expire and Krakow won 3-2. It was then off to Mumchies, where everyone got something to MUNCH on and it’s my sincerest hope, that the item they got was stolen baby moo-juice free. We then went home to prepare for Shabbos Koidesh.

Mazal Toiv to Rabbi & Mrs. Semel on the upcoming חתונה of אברהם (a former camper) to the daughter of Rabbi & Mrs. Ungar. A Mazal Toiv to the current campers נפתלי & אברהם and all the extended Ungar, Goldenberg, Semel and Tendler families. May they build a בית נאמן בישראל לשם ולתפארת! Please remember our counselors some of who left for the week, due to the above mentioned חתונה of their relative. They really put in the effort to help son have an amazing summer. I am writing the zelle address of each of them, should you choose to use them. ישעיה Klein ruk@mbyla.org נפתלי Shenker naftalishenker@gmail.com יצחק אייזק Tendler 3104993769 Our search for a "song of the summer" has resumed and is in in full force. Next week we need to choose a song of the summer, most years it’s hard to choose a top ten, since there aren’t 10 worth songs. This year it’s hard, since there are more than ten worthy songs, but we are up to the task and will proceed. Some of the songs are regarding אמונה, ברכת כהנים, רקידה, the הכל יכול, אבינו שמשמים, זה היום, חמשה קולות, פועל גבורות, ישועות, בעזרת השם, קוינו, על הר גבוה, Jungle music on פסח night, ושמחת בחגך, כל העולם כולו, העם שלי, אני עם אבא and more. As I said, way too many to choose from, but we will persevere, since that’s what we do as אידען. No Big Moish isn’t available to win, sorry, in order to be in contention, the song must have come out between when camp was over last year and when it’s over this year. On Tisha B’Av the following boys came to learn some of the time. They used their time well: צבי Ross חיים זאב Adler פסח זכריה Shlomowitz
The ninth of Av, was an awful day Started all the way back, I dare say The spies lied, the people want to stay Cried for nothing, for all time we do pay
Baid Hamikdash destroyed, devastated we are No one left in the land, we were taken away far By the rivers of buvel we cried, it left a great scar New Mikdash was completed, in the month Adar
For 420 years it lasted, then it was destroyed too By the Romans of cursed memory, that you knew Took away the vessels, to Rome through the blue Titus though got his, his brain the gnat did chew
About 50 years later, Bar Coichvuh did arise To beat back the Romans, that was the prize Thought he was משיח, turned out to be lies All the people were killed, we cry out our eyes
The city was plowed, so was the temple mount Troubles we’ve had, almost too many to count Those five things that happened, we sadly recount All the pain & suffering, & persecution we surmount
Here’s to hoping that next year, we will celebrate Har Habayis with a Korbon, going through a gate To offer on the Mizbayach, on this auspicious date Ninth of Av is now a Yom Tov, for this day we do wait
Monday the first day of the week, we had our test on last weeks material and I’m happy so say that there were a number of boys who did well. Boruch Hashem, we had a full day of learning, something which may be at a premium this week. At 12:45 after lunch we headed out to the beach at El Segundo for our yearly excursion into the salty water and sand. I’m not sure what there is to like about this, but it seems to be a big hit. We went to El Segundo now that we have the black speck, which is bigger than the ugly green thing and we now both have parking issues. So, we parked in the Dockweiler junior beach instead of El Segundo and we began the trek to our usual spot. On the way we noticed that there was another empty spot, also right near the lifeguard closes to our parking spot, so we setup field there. Some of the adults and children brought their chairs from תשעה באב to the beach so they could have some semblance of cleanliness. We settled in and the boys with boards jumped in looking for that elusive wave, while the rest of the boys just dashed into the water. Some of the boys played football, or buried each other half way in the sand. Other boys, were digging for China, in all the years I’ve seen boys do that, no one ever reached China. They were there for about 1.5 hours, before we exited the water. The מפונקים then headed to the showers, they were trying to make up for nine days in one day. It took about 30 minutes until everyone was back on the buses and we headed back to the Shul. There was a lot of traffic even for LA standards and we inched our way home. Of course we were back by 4:25 beating the estimate by five minutes. Some outtakes: What do you do if you lose your bathing suit in the ocean I’m not asking for any particular reason, I was just wondering We were visited by the nearby lifeguard, a really nice guy He explained to the adults about the current, I noticed some ADHD kicking in The gist of it was, everyone should be careful and he’s there if we need him The boys were careful and we didn’t need him It was refreshing none-the-less since we’ve had less than stellar interaction During previous years, with other lifeguards At 12:58 PM and again on the way home, the boys were offered a choice, which would you choose Listen to Rabbi Manne speak or listen to semi-jungle musice They made the wrong choice, the opter for semi or regular jungle music over Rabbi Manne Teenagers, what can you expect from them, בעזהי"ת they come out the other side OK
Tuesday morning, we had a bit of a shortened day of learning, due to the travel distance to our hike. We left at about 12:00 and got there about 1:15, upon our arrival we parked in the bus parking area, at least the one we chose for ourselves. We then waited for the black speck to show, which it eventually did. We then headed out on the hike doing one of the routes, since there are many hikes to do from there and there pretty much was no wrong way to go. Some of the boys were whining as soon as we started, I’m fairly certain that none of the applications stated that the applicant attended בית יעקב, a fine institution, one we don’t cater to. We trudged on, eventually making our way around to the tepee, where some of the boys decided to stay, since it was only covered area on the hike. Others made their way down to the falls, since there is water there which always draws attention. In this case I don’t get it, I wouldn’t drink that water even with the wonderful algae flavoring it was still a hard pass for me. We stayed around there for a while. Some of the boys decided to climb the rock, since that’s just what teenage boys do, if there’s a rock there, ה' must have put it there to climb up, why else would it be there. After hanging around there for a bit we headed back to the parking lot. It took about 30 minutes to get back and we then loaded the buses for the trip home. The Tarzanapan boys were picked up at the hike, the valley boys were dropped at the 170 and Burbank and everyone else was taken back to the Shul. We arrived on time at 5:32 PM, at least on the bus that always arrives on time. Everyone was exhausted and went home to get a good night’s sleep to be ready for learning tomorrow.
Some outtakes I would recommend staying away from cacti, it usually doesn’t end well for the person Thank you to עקיבא יונה הלוי, the upcoming הצלה member, who pulled some needles out of people Appropriate since in this weeks פרשה we discuss the first הצלה member ראובן, עיין בגמ' מכות י. There was climbing going on near the waterfall, most of it with permission At least no one was jumping off of the top, I’ve seen some not bright people do that in the past The thing about the hike, is that there was absolutely no shade, except for at the tepee Someone quoted waze as saying that we would get back by 5:50 18 minutes later then my waze said Of course, when you are a KING Wazer you get the best routes, the rest being left for the commoners We were told of a rattle snake sighting, not surprising since we were out in the middle of the desert Some of the boys were looking to get pictures of it, highly not recommended If it doesn’t like the photography, it may kiss you, sweet as that sounds, it can kill people One of the boys ran out of water in the middle of the hike MINIMUM TWO LITERS, PREFERABLY THREE, IT COULD BE A סכנה!
Wednesday, we once again had a bit of shortened day of learning but not as little as the previous day. At 12ish we headed out to Torrance which is just slightly passed LAX, and went to the LA Galaxy Soccer center to play soccer or real soccer courts. It was indoors so much of the outside heat was negated. I’ve never seen a games with so much constant moving, I was getting tired just from watching it. Once we got the boys started, we took the buses to get them gas, I’ve been trying to wean them off that expensive habit, but they are stubborn and refuse to function if I don’t feed them the gas. Gas is cheaper in Orange County over LA County, maybe b/c it’s a Trump/Red county. The boys did rotations in and out of the game as it was grueling and tiring. This was the 2nd to last league game of the season with team Shlumpy playing Kartofel, and team Krakow playing Esvehan was bombed. After this game the race for 2nd place is just one point with basketball still upcoming. The boys went at this for two hours, after which we cleaned up after ourselves and boarded the buses to come home. On the way the change of plans was discussed with the boys, regarding the change of venue for tomorrow. Everyone seemed excited for the new adventure, though I must say that the ropes course is one of the funnest things we do, combining climbing, ziplining and showering into one activity. The thing I will miss the most, is Sean, Uaiiight! Everyone went home to refresh for tomorrow being really tired out.
Some outtakes Team Krakow lost, you didn’t hear that wrong, they lost, for the first time this year They still are running away with the league point win, since they were so far ahead in any case They were beat by Esvehan was bombed, and it was close, 9-8 Shlumpy just mashed kartofel, by a score of 9-2 It was really cool to watch, I got to see some of the boys use their head for the first time all summer נפתלי scored a really nice goal from half court We had 3 courts all to ourselves but only used two, since we didn’t need the third one Don’t worry 8-12 is coming up soon, on ערב שבת קודש
Thursday, morning we BH had an almost complete day of learning. We then headed out to Urban Air in Fullerton. We left at 12ish and arrived at about 1:30. Everyone go their pair of socks and off they went to participate in the various activities available to them. There were so many to choose from, plain bouncing, bounding dodgeball, bouncing basketball, bouncing off the wall, jousting on a stick, jumping over a moving stick, climbing across over people’s heads, lastertag, wall climbing, VR (something I seem to live with in camp) and many more activities. There were slurpees, which were Kosher and many of the boys imbibed them. We had a set of tables to put down our stuff and a room to eat in. The boys were going from thing to thing, trying to master it, some of the boys were a bit enthusiastic and got banned from some things. It was really interesting to watch as the boys attempted to jump and stuff a basketball unsuccessfully, with few exceptions. However, I see future גדולים, never giving up is the key. When this was done, we went to our chosen park, but there was no parking for us, imagine a park without parking, seems like a oxymoron (or a plain one). We quickly found another nearby park, where we had a league football game, teams Krakow and Kartofel declined to participate since neither a win or loss would affect their standing in the standing. Teams Shlumpy and Esvehan was bombed, played and Esvahan was bombed, exploded on the Shlumpy’s really disheveling them, moving them to second place and Shlumpy to third, but there’s still tomorrow. Then there was the World-famous CRM BBQ we once again improvised, no knives no problem, we just make things work. After מנחה we loaded the buses and headed back, we could have had another league game, but the boys were wiped, liked I suspected they would be and were happy to get home and to rest, after all the overnight and camp finale is coming up next week. The valley and pico were dropped off at 7:55 and the La Brea boys at 8:25.
Urban air you know, is a thing of ledge What they have, is really cutting edge I’ll say it to you straight, this I do pledge All the good things, that I can dredge
Climbing over tables, where people eat I wouldn’t sit there, even for good meat If someone’s not, very agile on their feet One’s socks may soon, their food greet
Laser tag & wall climbing, they’re a feat Not activities, that you do on the street Climbing through tubes, w/babies U meet Sitting and Shmoozing, as if in your suite
The VW will scare you, and drive you mad Dunking and missing, will make you sad Treating the jump zone, like a jump pad You land there safely, now aren’t you glad
Jousting on a beam, you fall and do lose At least it’s foam, it won’t leave a bruise Getting banned, well now that’s news Sad that you’re blaming, on being Jews
Some outtakes: With few exceptions, everyone had their release form ready, making for an easy entry system יחזקאל עקיבא helped out today, by consuming eleven frankfooters חיים זאב threw a football from half court against the backboard and banked it in The rule you have to call your banks, only applies to basketballs We keep searching unsuccessfully, for the black speck Even on a five-minute trip, they’re five minutes late, that takes talent Admin it, even YT doesn’t know what the black speck looks like from behind There are pictures of two boys making a deal, I can’t confirm what they were selling Counselor נפתלי an amazing role model, got himself banned He started a trend some of the boys followed his example and were subsequently banned too אהרן נתנאל behind his back, under his legs, with the dunk, the only to successfully do so Somone’s house was blowing on the freeway offramp I saw the good in it, we could get another new tent Alas no one was willing to jump out and snag it for us נתנאל won a dodgeball game, when outnumbered 4-1
Friday morning, we came to learn. We then headed to the park at YGLA for a basketball game. Upon our arrival, we split into two games, with Shlumpy playing Krakow and Kartofel playing Esvehan was bombed. I won’t ruin it by telling you beforehand who won, but stay tuned for an website update announcing the league winners this afternoon. Of course we ended the week with a trip to 8-12, I’m מסופק is שבת קודש could start without a slurpee on ערב שבת, you must prepare for שבת, is there another way to properly prepare. |
